Inside railroading

Found a great shot a few weeks ago of the inside of one of the large warehouses in the New York area. I found it on the French forum that has a thread that focusses on New York Harbor railroading. In another post, there is a picture of this terminal in a Life story on a soldier's body being returned home after being killed that says this is in Brooklyn.

At the point I saw it I thought it might be the Lehigh Terminal at 26th-27th streets, but I can't remember why I thought that. It is hard to be careful with documentation of research - it is hard to do at work, and it is hard to do at play. I'm considering using an academic software such as Evernote or similar in order to keep my findings straight. Anyone have a system for organizing their railroad research? I need to do something soon at both work and play...

  1. Riley - I know what you mean about keeping things straight.......I've been collecting this stuff for a long time now, and I often forget just what NY Harbor goodies (some which I'd be happy to share with you!) I have in the "basement archives", let alone saved digitaly (saved as a URL or image file)...Unfortunately, I have no good system to share with you, but I'm interested to hear what you come up with.....As for the above referenced photo, yes, that is the Brooklyn Army Terminal. The LV's Starrett-Lehigh building did not have a high gallery like the above warehouse, if it had a three story ceiling, that was all. I needed some ceiling room, as there was an overhead crane in the building. I'll have to dig out my Starrett-Lehigh brochure to be more correct (oh yay, I get to go digging!)

  2. What I will promise to do is ask if anyone has anything on [fill in the blank] when I get to a point of looking for something in particular. It is amazing what people have that is perfect information when one puts out a call like that!
